It's October, which means that it's time for another Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon. I just wasn't sure about participating for a variety of reasons. Namely, I usually am terrible at actually getting much in the way of reading done and I have some stuff to finish up before I leave town next week. But I have been much more monogamous in my reading lately, so I think I'll be able to make a ton of progress on a single novel (or maybe something non-fiction--that's been known to happen) and I am working the desk tomorrow at work, which means I'll get the homework out of the way. Now there's no reason not to participate. After almost making up my mind to participate, I asked Zach if we were going anywhere on Saturday; he said no. I concluded, "Fine...I will participate...If I leave the apartment for anything other than food, it had better freaking be worth it." I said as much to Zach and he agrees because he wants to stay in all day, but he will not be spending the day reading. He knows I am participating in the Readathon, so that won't be a problem.
I think I'm good to go.
I am not working today, so I am going to do some pre-thon practice. Kind of like carbo-loading, but books. I want to get into a book that I will sit and make a lot of progress on during the Readathon. I also want to come up with a couple of alternates. My main concern here is that I don't want to flit around from book to book and not make any progress. I've found that for me to finish books I really need to focus on one at a time.
I've been thinking about food items because we all know that the thon is also a good excuse to sit around and eat throughout the day. I am thinking grab something for lunch, make tater tot casserole for supper. But I also have grilled cheese fixins, so I might just stick with that (and that gives me a great idea for breakfast this morning!). When I go to the store tomorrow, I will also grab some snacks. Not sure what kind of snacks. Anyone have any good snack ideas?
Lastly, the thon is a good opportunity to not get dressed. I've already got my comfy clothing figured out. It's pretty much going to be my fall and winter uniform, by the way. I found these really cute sweaters from Target that are long enough to be worn in public with leggings (I may need to get some other colors now that I go back to the website...). So I plan on wearing one of those with leggings and fleece socks all day. Which is exactly what I am doing today as well.
I'll try to remember to post tomorrow with the outcome of my trial run. The books. The snacks. That whole thing. The day of the actual Thon, I plan to update every few hours with what I've read, what I've eaten, and how my general disposition is. I'll (hopefully) do one final update after I wake up on Sunday. But I might have a massive reading hangover, so we'll see.
I don't have a reading goal exactly. I'd like to Thon for 16 hours. We're starting at 7:00 am in Oklahoma...so 16 hours would put me at 11:00 pm. I could do that. I could possibly do even longer if Zach is up playing video games or something, but I don't want to be overly ambitious. I'd also like to comment on a few blogs as I go. Maybe do a couple of mini-challenges. We'll see. :) I am leaving myself pretty open, but I do want to participate like gangbusters.
That's all. See you later.
